The Waita village addressed Oguni town, Aso County, Kumamoto Prefecture is located at the prefecture boundary between Kumamoto and Oita Prefecture, at the foot of the mountain ranging from the western end of Aso Mountain Range. The mountainous village has given nature blessings from Waita mountain. The most beneficial giving is geothermal. There are 7 hot spring ryokans in the district. There are places where there are many geothermal outlets in the settlement, and we use steam for heating in winter, drying of food and cedar boards, steam cooking etc.
Throughout the year, we hold festivals. In the spring, festivals pray for good harvest, festivals praying for gratitude to the water source, Bon dancing in the summer, festival of thanks to the settlers, festival thanks to harvesting and geothermal heat in autumn. Among them, the Bon Odori is grand scale, but after the past 20 years blank, it was revived in 2016.
Each neighborhood has its own hot spring inn. Unlike other spa areas, there is no spa street. Each hot spring inn offers private space and time. Please check the hot-spring site website for details.
